The Rich and the Beggar
"Mem Sahib-Mem Sahib-please-one dassi (ten paise coin) give me one -"-a child of ten years was following her.
"I do not have change-no coins."
Rebuking him, Mem Sahib began to walk hurriedly. "These beggar children are pick pockets. We must be beware of them."
She put her hanging bag into her basket. Her purse contained the total salary of the month. So she made purchases as much as she could use throughout the whole month.
For payments, she searched her purse in the basket but of no use.
"Oh! My purse!" she cried.
"You had put it in the basket"-Her friend told her.
"I did see---it is not there now---sure, the boy had taken it out ---Alas!"
"Mem Sahib, your purse"-The same boy, stretching his hand was before her. He was out of breath.
She opened the purse, counted money and smiled happily. She brought out the smallest currency note to give as a reward to the boy. But the boy was not visible. She could not bear the heavy weight of that smallest currency note. It was too heavy for her.
